As Per the Economic Survey of Pakistan (2020-2021), IT and related services have the highest compound annual growth rate in the region at 18.85 percent.

Furthermore, independent consultants, freelancers and micro-enterprises, contributed around $500 million to IT and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) exports, with annual domestic revenue Surpassing $1 billion.

According to the survey, from July to February of the current fiscal year, IT export revenues in sectors such as telecommunications and computer IT services increased by 41.39 percent to $1.29 billion, up from $918 million during the same time in the Fiscal Year 2020.

IT exports of Pakistan from July to March of Fiscal Year 2022 were at $1.948 billion.

According to State Bank of Pakistan figures, Pakistan’s IT exports surged by 47.4% during the fiscal year 2020-2021, crossing the $2b mark for the first time in the country’s history.

During the 2019-2020 Fiscal Year IT Industry of Pakistan exports were at $1.11 Billion.

IT/ITeS firms and freelancers can maintain 100 percent of revenue received via proper banking channels in their Foreign Currency Accounts (FCY) accounts without having to convert them to rupees. 

Additionally, for Pakistan Software Export Board-registered freelancers, and IT companies outward transactions from FCY accounts are unrestricted.

Pakistan has an IT industry which contributes over 1% of Pakistan’s GDP and employs hundreds of thousands of people in various fields like education, telecommunications, banking, healthcare, and so on.
